    Where are courses held?

The regularly scheduled courses posted on this website are held at the "Mississauga Martial Arts Centre" in Mississauga.  www.mississaugamac.com

They are held from 12.00pm to 3.00pm and always on a Sunday.

    How long is a course?

Each course is 3 hours in length.  The regular scheduled courses start at 10.00pm and run until 1.00pm.  Be sure to eat a light breakfast beforehand as there is no break for lunch.  There will be washroom and water breaks only.

Why do the courses only seem to be held on Sundays?

Regularly scheduled courses are held at the Mississauga Martial Arts Centre in Mississauga.  The academy is closed on Sundays; therefore, allowing complete privacy for the RAVEN Self Defense courses to be conducted.

How much does a course cost?

The cost is $60 per person, per course.

    How do I register?

Currently just contact Linda de Los Reyes to secure your spot @ linda.delosreyes@gmail.com

Very soon you'll be able to register by PayPal from this site.

What do I need to bring with me/what should I wear?

It's a good idea to bring some water with you, and as for apparel, just wear something comfortable to train in like track pants and a t-shirt and/or sweatshirt.  Layering your clothing is a good idea.

Note:  Because you will be striking pads during the course, I recommend that you leave all jewelry behind.  For your safety, no rings, watches, necklaces or earrings are to be worn while training.

May I take notes during the course?

Of course!  For the theory portion of Level I however, you will be given a handout after class so you won't need to take notes for that part.

I would like to bring my 14 year old daughter with me. Is she too young?

I recommend that attendees for the Level I course be at least 13 years of age, and 15 years of age for the Level II course.

If you wish to arrange self defense training for a younger female, I can modify the course content in a one on one session.  Please just contact me for more details.  Thank you.

Can you give a brief description of what is taught in Level I & II?

    Level I

This is an introductory course or a refresher course for anyone that has taken a course before. The first portion of Level I deals with theory and the importance of developing a proper mindset.  Many courses jump right into physical techniques when teaching self defense, but there is so much that an individual can do for herself to avoid a physical confrontation in the first place.

Really, when it comes to self defense, I believe that physical confrontation is the last resort.  So the first portion deals with theory/mindset and the second portion deals with the actual physical techniques for stand up defense along along with more theory provided throughout while the techniques are being drilled.

Level I focuses on the stranger/predator attack.

    Level II

This course will provide a quick refresher of the techniques taught in Level I, then the students will learn techniques from the ground.  The ground is generally the scariest place to be for a female, but I believe that this is where a female is actually the strongest.  I will show you how to use your physical make-up to your advantage.

Level II focuses on the known attacker.

I won’t be asked to demonstrate anything will I?

You may be asked, but you won't be pressured into doing anything you don't want to do.  There are no surprises!

When it comes to teaching a technique, I will demonstrate the move in the air, or on a bag and show it from several angles while the students watch.  I have the class lineup in a chorus line so that I can  view and monitor their movement.  The technique is first practiced in the air, and then individually, the students will either strike pads that I am holding, or they will hit a heavy bag.  The technique is repeated several times until everyone is comfortable enough to move on to the next drill.

Can my boyfriend/husband come and watch?

No, I don't allow spectators to watch the courses, it can make some individuals uncomfortable having others watch.

What is the main difference between Level I & Level II?

Level I deals with a stranger/predator attack and focuses on stand up techniques, while Level II focuses on the known attacker and focuses on ground positioning and techniques.

Do I have to take Level I before I take Level II?

No, you don't necessarily have to take Level I first, but it is a good idea.  By taking Level I first you get to know me, what my style of teaching is, as well as my opinion on female self defense.  Even if you have taken other courses before, you have likely taken courses that were built on a martial arts foundation; RAVEN is not.

Level II gives a quick refresher of the stand-up techniques taught in Level I, and those same techniques can also be used on the ground in addition to the new movements you will learn in Level II which focuses on the ground.

Finally, Level II is much more sensitive in the nature of positioning and content, so most females felt much more comfortable starting with Level I first, and then moving on to Level II.  But again, it's not mandatory to take one before the other.

Level II courses dates aren't listed on your website? When are they held?

Currently, Level II courses are held by request only. If you'd like to take a Level II course, simply contact me via e-mail and I will schedule a date for you and others who have shown interest.

Would you schedule a course for me & my girlfriends?

Of course.  Just contact me with the desired date and I'll work with you to make it happen. (Please note that Sundays work the best for me).

Are you willing to travel to our location?

Yes, I am.  I have traveled as far as Vancouver to conduct a course.  Simply contact me and we'll arrange something that works for both parties.

I don't like crowds. Could I train with you one on one?

My schedule is quite hectic, but I will try to accommodate any requests I get for one on one training.  Just contact me and we'll arrange something that works for both of us.

Before I sign up for a course, I'd like to meet with you. How can I arrange that?

Just contact me via e-mail or by phone and I will more than happy to arrange a meeting with you.
